Why we built it this way.

Years of professional dog training shaped how we built Trail & Co.

We wanted more space, fewer dogs, and the ability to make informed decisions throughout the day, whether that meant taking a few compatible dogs out for a bigger adventure or giving another dog the individual time they needed.

The 20 acres give us options. Keeping the group small gives us time. Our dog training background gives us the experience to know how to use both.

Twenty private acres give us room to do more than take dogs into a yard for exercise. We can head out for a long hike, explore the property at a slower pace, swim, run alongside a mountain bike, work on something new, or take a few compatible dogs out together.

Sometimes the best part is simply having enough space to let a dog move, sniff, explore, and take their time.

  • We have a general plan for the day, but we do not decide every activity before we see how the dog is doing.

    A dog can be ready for a big morning and need a quieter afternoon. We pay attention to how they are moving, resting, interacting, and recovering, then decide whether they are ready for more or need time to come down.

    That is where experience matters.

  • We do not put dogs together just because they are both staying here.

    We choose social time when we think the dogs involved will genuinely enjoy it. That might mean a few compatible dogs heading out together, two dogs who seek each other out, or simply sharing space without needing to play.

    For another dog, more one on one time with us may be the better choice.

  • After time outside, social time, or a bigger adventure, dogs need a real chance to sleep and recover.

    During the day, that may mean settling on a bed near us, hanging out in their own outdoor space, or getting uninterrupted rest in a crate.

    At night, dogs sleep individually in crates, giving each dog a predictable, protected space of their own.

    A great stay is about balance. We want dogs to enjoy what they do here, have time to recover, and settle before we ask more of them.
